Doug Schmude's Bio
Doug Schmude writes and performs a unique blend of roots music, artfully combining elements of folk, blues, rock, bluegrass and country to convey a mood as well as a message. His debut CD, A New Century, is a collection of original acoustic music, with the exception of his arrangement of the traditional folk song Cane on the Brazos. Acclaimed Nashville harmonica player Shannon Williford and Denver music scene veteran Rick Lozano contribute to the recording, among others. As a whole, the music is spacious and provides an excellent backdrop for his vivid lyrical imagery. The end result is a recording that leaves room for the listener as a part of the experience.
Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Doug spent most of his childhood in Oklahoma and Texas. He honed his songwriting in the late 1990's while performing in and around Boulder, Colorado. In 2000, he relocated to Nashville to further develop his craft. While in Tennessee, he was nominated for several awards through his work with the acoustic blues duo Hot Foot Delta. Doug is currently based out of Southern California, performing in support of the CD and writing the next generation of songs. His live performances are highlighted by journeys into Delta Blues, which are backed by percussive resonator guitar playing, often pounding on the guitar for rhythmic accent. Although he predominately writes and performs on acoustic guitar and resonator slide guitar, he also plays harmonica, mandolin and banjo. In addition to songwriting, recording and performing, Doug lends his talents as a session guitarist, recording engineer and producer.
